Worker's of the World, UNITE!

So it just occured to me that my selected one-year-anniversary of bike commuting is MAY DAY. That's "sickle&hammer, yo comrade, worker's of the world unite" MAY DAY.

There's some satisfaction in this as we all have a chance to stick it to, even if it's just a poke, THE MAN. THE MAN has it coming. Believe me. (editors note: I'm thinking some of your more degenerate reader's are getting a kick out of your choice of words).

I'm just some ordinary Joe. I'll probably never make a huge difference in this world. But, this is at least one day we can stand up and say "Hey, you! Yes, you, THE MAN. Screw you!" A true communist/socialist rant. My much more political than me wife would be proud. I know it's easy to be middle class and espouse these values, but I'll tell you something. Give me a country that would support decent mass transit, equal education to all, health insurance to all, equal opportunity to all and I'll gladly trade my multiple bike, thinking about remodeling the kitchen, blah, blah life of luxury. I know some will say communism is a failed experiment and in a sense it is. At least in it's recent incarnation. I have a friend who works in a former communist state and he'll be the first to tell you that communism produced perhaps the laziest and least productive workforce on earth. That's a problem. We'll have to work on that. On the other hand, I have another friend who grew up in Romania and has immigrated to the US. Why? The communist system collapsed leaving no social structure in place. It has transformed her country into a miserable, dog-eat-dog hell. A place with no visible future. She likely would have never come here had the system not failed (actualy, I'm glad she's here because she's an asset to our country). And guess why the system failed? Not because of any fundamental flaw, but because of good ole' Ronald Reagan. He ran up a monstrous deficit fighting the cold war and bankrupt the system. He had them with their Mastercard charged to the max and forced them out of the game.

Ok. I feel much better now. Don't know what got into me. If you read many blogs you know the kind of stream-of-conciousness mentals rants you'll see.

Nonetheless, I make no apologies for my ideas. If you have any political rationale behind your bike riding, please join me in celebrating May 1. Ride on, Comrade!
