Almost There

I'm not absoutely certain. I think I'll call it on May 1, 2006. May 1, 2006 will be one-year of commuting by bike everyday, rain, shine, snow, crud. I don't recall the day I started because I never really started on purpose. It just sort of happened. I started biking and just didn't stop. Soon I realized I had a streak going. What the hell, go for it.

This is not a huge accomplishment. I enjoy being on the bike. So I've spent a year doing something I enjoy. Not too tough.

If you don't, try it.

In the words of the late Frank Zappa, "You'll love it. It's a way of life". Joe's Garage c. 1980ish or so, whatever

Nothing to do with being noble. I'm a mere pleasure seeking hedonist. Love to ride. I'm glad it's a habit with some benefits to others too.

Seriously, it doesn't matter all that much if you don't always do it. Even afew times a month seems fine. I have a short commute. Even so, if I were to let my car idle in the garage for the same amount of time i spend driving towork, it would kill anyone in the garage. So, when you think about it, any day you don't drive is a day you're not putting some serious poison in the air. Good enough.

Truth is that it's easier for some than others. I have no children, and my wife, bless her, is extremely low maintenace. My life is simple compared to most. Lot's of bike commuters are way more serious than me.

What is my point? I guess; Do what you can, this isn't a contest and ride on.

Jim, I thought I posted a comment on my lunch break, but it didn't take. It went something like this. I think it is a huge accomplishment. Just think what you've done, that very few people can say they've done. Your health is better, your outlook on life is more positive, and you are being good to our planet. Way to go!
